The University of Wolverhampton is deeply engaged in Knowledge Transfer, working with small and medium sized companies (SME’s) in the region through several innovation support projects part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), each structured to meet specific requirements of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP’s).


The School of Mathematics and Computer Science are currently leading the ERDF Digital Enterprise (SOLVD) Project which has the remit to engage with SMEs and conduct collaborative research and innovation projects in the field of Digital technologies. The project team will engage in research collaborations to bring the latest digital technologies to SME’s across the Advanced manufacturing and Engineering Sector, including AI, Robotics, data analytics, cybersecurity, wireless networks, sensor technologies and immersive technologies.


The School of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in University of Wolverhampton seeks to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Embedded Systems and Robotics to support this Project. You will hold a first degree in a relevant discipline (Computer Science/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering) or equivalent, together with a PhD in Computer Science or Engineering and will have carried out extensive demonstrable high quality research in the area of Embedded Systems and Robotics at a university, research institute or in a related part of the private sector.


You will have proficiency in a range of subject specific skills and ideally will have extensive experience in site-based research settings. You may have strong technical knowledge in at least one of the following:  Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Telecommunications and/or Data analytics.


You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently to develop new research objectives and proposals including contributing to the securing of external funding and collaborative projects. You will have a developing portfolio of publications in high impact peer reviewed research journals or equivalent.


The role will involve working with professors, and academic staff within the School of Mathematics and Computer Science to assist in the research outputs for the Digital Enterprise project and the school as a whole.
