Research Services (RS) operates under the directorate of Research Policy Unit (RPU) and under the leadership of the Head of Research Services and the Dean of Research. Research Services is the primary central Professional Service for: the enhancement of research quality and developing our Research Excellence Framework (REF) submissions; supporting the development of research projects and programmes; coordination of research integrity activities ethics, policy, governance and compliance with research Concordants; development and implementation of research systems and research operations as well as contributing to researcher development activities (with Doctoral College).

 

As part of the newly formed research development team within the Research Services you will be primarily responsible for the development and growth of a pipeline of strategically important research opportunities for Life Sciences and Health Research/ Physical Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton. In your role you will provide professional and expert advice to the development and preparation of funding bids within these key areas. Alongside colleagues in the RPU and the Project Support Office you will actively support:

 

  • building of a stronger research culture through the development of high quality research concepts and funding proposals,
  • building research capability through effective contribution to planning and strategy.
  • encouragement and facilitation of interdisciplinary collaboration across the institution

 

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate that they thrive in a dynamic environment, who can be resourceful, who has the ability to work independently as well as within a senior team, and is able to work collegiately with academic colleagues.

 

You will have significant experience in a research development/bid development role (either in, or with, UK Higher Education institutions) that demonstrates credibility in working with academics, senior leaders, administrators as well as with a variety of sponsors. You will bring specific knowledge or experience of relevant subject areas, be directly involved in the development of new research projects/programmes and support the funding activity of relevant researchers as well as members of the Research Centres / Institutes.

 

You will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to negotiate and effectively demonstrate influence at a senior level with senior research members and external organisations. The RDMs will be expected to initiate and lead networks both internally and externally, ensuring the University’s reputation is enhanced regionally, nationally and internationally

 

As a member of the RPU/Doctoral College senior team, the Research development managers will have shared responsibility for developing and delivering the RPU/Doctoral College academic vision and strategy.
