KTP Associate with Bromford Iron and Steel Ltd, Bromford Lane, West Bromwich

 

This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors.  Bromford Iron and Steel Ltd have joined forces with the University of Wolverhampton on this KTP project to investigate and implement productivity improvements for the Bromford hot steel rolling and cutting processes.

 

The purpose of this partnership is to support continuous improvement across the manufacturing facility at Bromford. This will be particularly focussed on improvements to the steel heating and rolling processes, investigating automation options, productivity improvements and finding ways to reduce energy costs for the company. An understanding of the latest green technologies would be an advantage.

 

You will be responsible for project managing this programme of work, bringing your manufacturing knowledge to this very traditional environment, and seeking ways in which to improve the workings of the mills. You should have the capability to manage feasibility studies investigating potential improvements, and should have experience of using CAD, CFD and FEA software to support each of these studies should this be required.

 

You should have experience of project management and be able to demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes.

 

We seek a minimum BEng/BSc (Hons) 2:1 in Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering with manufacturing elements. An appreciation of steel heating and rolling is essential.  

 

You should be confident, self-motivated and capable of working autonomously as well as in a team and be able to interact at all levels within industry with an inquisitive and innovative approach. You will need to work with the existing Bromford workforce on projects, so good communication skills are essential as is a flexible working approach and strict time management.

 

To support your commitment to continuous self-development you will have a generous personal development budget in addition to residential Management Training provided by the KTP scheme. Additional technical training and development will be supported as required by the project.

 

You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at Bromford Iron and Steel Ltd in West Bromwich. You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas to support the project aims.
