Graduate Research Assistant
This position is part time (0.5FTE) and temporary until June 2019
As a Research Assistant on the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project, ‘Designing a Sensibility for Sustainable Clothing (S4S)’ you will be working on the Midlands-based aspects of the project, which is jointly based at the University of Wolverhampton and the University of Exeter.
S4S is a collaborative research project with fashion activists and community organisations. It works co-productively with groups of volunteer participants, designers and dressmakers in workshops that explore the potential of making, mending and up-cycling as a means to interrogate fashion behaviours and promote sustainable attitudes to clothing choices.
Ideally you will have a track record in arts-based research methods, subject specialist knowledge (fashion textiles theories/practices broadly based) and some experience working with community groups. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to research excellence, quality and equal opportunities.
The position is based at the University of Wolverhampton in the School of Art and linked to the Fashion & Textiles Department’s developing Fashion Lab, which aims to explore new ways of thinking about collaborative making to support sustainable approaches to clothing.
For an informal discussion please contact Prof Fiona Hackney email F.Hackney@wlv.ac.uk
The University of Wolverhampton values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
