Assistant Director - Facilities
The University of Wolverhampton has just undergone a major reorganisation of its Campus Operations Services and Hospitality Accommodation Services into one department called “Facilities and Support Services”. We are now seeking an experienced and service focused individual with a taste for continual improvement to drive the department forward.
This is a senior post at Assistant Director Level and will be one of two reports into the Director of Estates and Facilities. You will have full responsibility for all of the University’s soft and commercial facing services including cleaning, caretaking and portering, security, communications, catering, conferencing and events, residential accommodation, the University’s nursery and managing several large service contracts.
You will be responsible for maximising opportunities to generate income from the University’s facilities and services, as far as is possible without impeding the academic activities of the University.
You will be required to have a combination of strategic planning, effective performance and a well-judged collaborative approach to fulfilling these responsibilities, all underpinned by the need to achieve results.
You will be expected to act as a change champion within the University, actively supporting the transformation of the facilities operations, streamlining services, fostering innovation and creativity, and supporting cultural change to improve the student and customer experience.
You will manage a budget of circa £11-12 million and have 3 direct line reports and 300+ staff within the department.
You must have a high level of interpersonal skills, a can-do attitude and an excellent level of customer service. It is vital that you have high financial acumen and can competently establish and manage budgets and growth in all aspects of the Department and, have experience and a record of successfully reorganising and improving services.
You will have the ability to drive and motivate a team of likeminded individuals and understand the need for clear strategic direction, agree and work to clear objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure that meaningful actions are measured and acted upon. You will ideally have a proven track record within a commercial Facilities environment and have an understanding of the challenges facing the University Sector.
To be considered for this post, you must have extensive experience of working at a senior level within a fast-paced, multi-sited environment and have experience of effectively managing and providing leadership to staff within a demanding workplace.
