Research Systems and Operations Manager
Research Services (RS) operates under the Research Policy Unit (RPU) directorate and under the leadership of the Head of Research Services and the Dean of Research. Research Services is the primary central Professional Service for: supporting the development of both, externally and internally funded research projects and funded programmes; the enhancement of research quality and developing our Research Excellence Framework (REF) submissions; coordination of research integrity activities and ethics; policy, governance and compliance with research Concordats; development and implementation of research systems and research operations as well as contributing to researcher development activities (with the Doctoral College).
As part of Research Services you will be primarily responsible for the further development, maintenance and management of research data systems as well as providing operational support to the unit and other research units as relevant.
Alongside colleagues across the university but in particular with Digital Services, External Relations and HR you will be involved in the management, implementation, growth and upgrade of the University’s Research Information Management System (Elements). Alongside the Head of Research Services, you will also be the institutional administrative lead on key areas related to submission of relevant data to the national research assessment (REF).
The role holder is also expected to provide key operational support to RS and a number of research units including the provision of professional and expert advice and for ensuring a consistent and high quality research service across the organisation as well as provision of strategic, efficient and accurate reporting.
We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate that they thrive in a dynamic environment, who can be resourceful, who has the ability to work independently as well as within a senior team, and is able to work collegiately with academic colleagues. The role includes managing the relationship with external suppliers, active participation in supplier user communities, and to promote the use of research systems within the University.
You will have significant experience in research data systems (either in, or with, UK Higher Education institutions) that demonstrates credibility in working with academics, senior leaders, administrators as well as with a variety of suppliers.
You will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to negotiate and effectively influence at a senior level with senior research members and external organisations. The role holder will be expected to initiate and/or join networks both internally and externally, ensuring the University’s reputation is enhanced regionally, nationally and internationally
