Mechanical Engineer, Research & Development (KTP with Wescol Ltd)

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way project between a graduate, an organisation and a university.
KTP is one of the largest graduate recruitment programmes across the UK, placing graduates (KTP Associates), to work on challenging, high profile projects.

This KTP project offers a unique opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch an industrial career with the support of Wescol Ltd and academic mentors from the University of Wolverhampton.
Wescol Ltd design and manufacture a range of industrial gas control equipment for use in cutting, welding, heating and gas distribution. This international company, which is based in Wolverhampton and have a manufacturing facility in China, is the leading independent manufacturer of gas regulators within the UK.
The purpose of this partnership is to develop an entirely new form of ultra-efficient gas monitoring and regulation valve. This will complement the existing product ranges currently supplied by Wescol.
You will be responsible for delivering a programme of work which will include:
- Full understanding of design, manufacture, function and certification of current products,
- Design using CFD and FEA for optimise current product and to enhance functionality
- Investigate and facilitate ease of manufacture.
- Pre-production testing and durability testing
- Support with bringing the new concepts to market
We seek an applicant with a minimum of a BEng 2:1 in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing or closely related subject or equivalent. You will need knowledge of manufacturing systems, and knowledge of quality systems to underpin the developed design FMEA. Any previous industrial experience would be advantageous.
Good communication skills are essential, as is a flexible working approach and strict time management. You should be enthusiastic, capable of working autonomously as well as within a team and be able to interact at all levels within industry.

You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at Wescol Ltd in the centre of Wolverhampton. You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas.
