Product Design and Development Engineer (KTP Associate with Clear Architects)
This is a 24 month fixed term contract
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way project between a graduate, an organisation and a university.
This KTP is based in Loughton, Essex.
KTP is one of the largest graduate recruitment programmes across the UK, placing graduates (KTP Associates), to work on challenging, high profile projects.

This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors. Clear Architects has joined forces with the University of Wolverhampton on this KTP project to enable them to design, test and manufacture innovative SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels for building) containing up to 50% waste materials.
Clear Architects is an ambitious, established and fast-growing architectural practice based just outside London in Loughton, Essex. Established in 2005, it is a RIBA Chartered practice renowned for its ‘exceptional’ architectural designs and impressive planning permission success rate.
Working on this KTP you will gain highly sought-after experience and skill development within the Architectural Engineering and Construction sector. You will be responsible for project managing this programme of work, bringing your engineering design, manufacturing, analytical and technological knowledge to the company.
We seek a minimum of a first degree or equivalent (1st or 2.1) in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Product Design or Manufacturing or related subject. You should demonstrate some knowledge of the construction sector and the use of SIPS. In particular you should demonstrate an understanding of construction materials, knowledge of modular design principles, understanding of structural and thermal testing as well as an enthusiasm for sustainable products and the environment.
You should be enthusiastic and capable of working autonomously as well as in a team and be able to interact at all levels within industry with an inquisitive and innovative approach. Good communication skills are essential as is a flexible working approach and strict time management. A positive attitude and pride in your work, showing attention to detail and quality control are essential. The ability to balance technical issues with commercial constraints and demonstrate abstract- thinking skills are also key requirements for this role.

You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at Clear Architects’ studio in Loughton, Essex but the project will involve periods using laboratory equipment at the University of Wolverhampton. You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas. It is essential that you are prepared to work within an environment of the strictest confidentiality and consequently must have no previous criminal record or issues preventing access to high security establishments.
