This KTP project offers a unique opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch an industrial career with the support of Wescol Ltd and academic mentors from the University of Wolverhampton.  


Wescol Ltd design and manufacture a range of industrial gas control equipment for use in cutting, welding, heating and gas distribution. This international company, which is based in Wolverhampton and have a manufacturing facility in China, is the leading independent manufacturer of gas regulators within the UK. 


The aim of this collaborative project is to develop novel, intelligent, self-powered, electronic gas control equipment.


You will be responsible for delivering a programme of work which will include:


  • The design of low power microcontroller  based sensors and associated communication systems
  • The development of a novel energy-harvesting mechanism to power the sensors in-situ
  • Accelerated life time testing of the new systems

You will have a minimum of a BEng 2:1 in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject. You must have experience of C programming for embedded systems, some knowledge of instrumentation electronics and the ability to balance technical and commercial constraints in the creation of novel designs. Any previous industrial experience would be advantageous.


Good communication skills are essential, as is a flexible working approach and strict time management.  You should be capable of working autonomously as well as within a team and be able to interact at all levels within industry.

You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at Wescol Ltd in the centre of Wolverhampton.  You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas.
