The Directorate of Academic Support plays a pivotal role in delivering on the University’s strategic aims, interacting with all constituent parts of the organisation. This is an ambitious agenda. It can only be achieved by being fully engaged with the University Community and University Partners, ensuring what and how we do it delivers value-for-money. At the centre of our approach is the user, their experience and the opportunities we provide them.

We are currently in the process of delivering a major Transformation Programme to create a “Digital Campus” which is as important and significant as the physical campus.  The goal of the Digital Campus is to create a campus without boundaries where the data and information required by a member of the University community can be found and accessed at any point in time from any location.  This is an exciting multi-million pound programme, which will require synergy between people, ICT and processes.  It is not an ICT programme, although ICT is a key enabler and many projects in the first instance will involve implementation of IT applications and infrastructure.

The Directorate of Academic Support is seeking to appoint an experienced Web Applications Developer, for a period of 1 year.

You will play a major role in the delivery of solutions arising from both projects (including projects within the Digital Campus Transformation Programme), support for existing systems, and operational opportunities and challenges. You will develop, support and advise on web-based applications including on-line learning technology, computer aided assessment, corporate/business systems, communications tools and information management and delivery.

Working within a specialist team in the Directorate of Academic Support (DAS), you will bring web development skills to a variety of tasks both within and outside formal project environments.

‪Key skills and experience required:

  • Technical knowledge and administration skills in Windows server, MS Internet Information Services and desktop operating systems.
  • Design and programming skills with ASP, ASP.NET, XML, (X)HTML, C and PHP.
  • Detailed knowledge of MS SQL Server design, development and administration.
  • Experience of developing and supporting solutions based on web content management systems (CMS).
  • Development and configuration experience of on-line learning technology.
  • Development of solutions to relevant standards including use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and experience of development with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI).
  • Experience of designing and implementing systems integrations e.g middleware.

Based within the Directorate of Academic Support in MX Building, you may be required to work at other campuses if necessary.

Previous applicants need not apply.
